The Five-Time Champions Win Using Their Heads
Five-Cup Barça have made their debut in La Liga, defeating Real Sporting de Gijón 3 to 0. The Blaugrana goals were scored by Bojan Krkić, Seydou Keita, and Zlatan Ibrahimović in a similar fashion, as they were all after-corner headers.
Three days after winning the UEFA Super Cup, Barça didn’t miss the chance to win their first game in the local season, before their fans. Lacking some of their key players, like Henry or Iniesta (who was injured), the Blaugranas didn’t have their usual lustre, but still they managed to profit from the right situations in a corner-plagued match.
Barça exercised an overwhelming control of the game. The reward came on 17’, when Keita re-directed a corner for Bojan hit the net by the second post, scoring the first goal.
Gijón didn’t give up, and the second Barça goal came on 42’, when Keita –who stole the show in this game– headed the ball after a great cross from Alves.
In the second half, bad luck seemed to seize Ibrahimović. After having shown his technical skill, the culé star couldn’t shoot accurately or find the way to bring his moves to a climax. But on 81’, he headed a ball provided by Dani Alves and the header became the third goal in the evening. This was Ibra’s scoring debut with his new team, in his new home, and before his new fans –72,000 enthusiastic followers who burst with joy when they saw their idol score.
